Just read this article, so disturbing ! I just had to post it on my blog. First and foremost my heart goes out to the children of Haiti, especially those who were sexual abused by Perlitz. I think what bothers me the most is the fact that Douglas Perlitz believes that because he helped the children through his nonprofit organization, he shouldn’t suffer too severely for his actions.
Perlitz said he would like to continue helping people. They say a convicted sex offender has no future, but I would like to try to prove people wrong, he said.
My question for Douglas Perlitz, how are you going to continue to help people, when it’s clear you need help yourself. Not once did Perlitz mention taking precautions on better himself or getting help for his actions, but he did mention the fact that he was abused by a priest which is suppose to justify what he did I guess. If Perlitz was abused at some point in his life, why is now the appropriate time to say so. I can’t say if Perlitz is telling the truth or not, but I can say that what he did was wrong and will have an impact on those kids for the rest of there lives. One of the young boys story was truly devastating here it is below.
Another victim said Perlitz started abusing him on his 14th birthday in 2004. He said he struggled with feelings of shame and thought about suicide, especially when he read the Bible.
Could you imagine bringing in your 14th birthday in such a way. Tragic is what it is! Although this doesn’t hold truth for all the programs in Haiti, it does hold truth to some and just because the people of Haiti need help doesn’t mean they should be taken advantage of. Don’t be ignorant to what is going on around the world. Situations like this are happening. I am just glad Douglas Perlitz madness was put to a stop. I hope this brings awareness and increase attention to these gross human right violations ! Please feel free to comment as well as share this article and my blog.
