Day 3 / Mothers Day in Haiti!

Day three was our day to relax and enjoy the island, and for the Haitian people, a celebration of mothers. We went to a 6:00am church service (it is held that early because it’s gets hotter throughout the day). The church we attended was called St. Michael’s. After service we went to the beach (where I fell in love). Once we were done at the beach we headed to a restaurant inside the Cap-Lamandou Hotel in Jacmel. The view from the hotel was amazing as well as the food. By day three I realized how serious and organized the Haitian people were when it came to religious service. The attire they wear throughout the week is completely different from what they wear to church on Sunday, which is how it is here (United States). But in the United States we also don’t live under the same circumstance as they do in Haiti, which gives reason to why I was surprised but at the same time I felt a sense of satisfaction to the result of there achievement. Being able represent themselves so well. Talk about Sundays best ! And the little girls with their bright colorful dresses just melted my heart! The hotel we went to like I mentioned before was amazing ! But I felt somewhat bothered by the fact that the hotel was there in Jacmel but most of the children we were teaching English to, and even the adults would probably never get the chance to enjoy something so close to their homes. Water being a necessity for every human being is difficult to make available (clean water) to the Haitian people. Safe drinking water has become Haiti’s most urgent public health problem. Contaminated water is the main cause of cholera yet the hotel had a pool full of it ( disturbing to say the least) . I’m not sure if I’m being a hypocrite since I did eat at the restaurant but I can’t ignore how I felt and the obvious circumstance of the Haitian people (my people). Well I hope you enjoyed Day 3, and day 4 will probably be posted on Monday since tomorrow is Father’s Day. Happy early Father’s Day to all the fathers reading.
